Behind
the front desk of the Barracuda Blue, there is a large staff room that the employees
have access too. It in this common space where the employees can have lunch, take
their breaks, and the management can have staff meetings when necessary. This
morning, which is a beautiful day in Maui, the front desk manager, Carson McGuire,
is hosting a staff meeting, just so he can relay some information that he is fed
from both Arrow, the hotel manager, and Orvilla, the CEO of Meccanica, the company
that owns the Barracuda Blue, among other resorts.
"Alright everyone,
let's settle down," Carson announces to the group, who are all sitting in
chairs that face the front desk manager. The chatter between the employees' quiets
as he looks at them and then continues. "I don't have a lot of information
to go over today, so we can get back to what we need to be doing, which is serving
our guests."
"What guests? This place has been dead lately,"
Chloe Peller, who is one of the front desk clerks, perks up and says, which gets
a chuckle from the rest of the staff.
"That is actually the update
that I wanted to share with you all," Carson ignores her attempt ruin his
meeting. "Orvilla is going to be putting some of the rooms on, how does one
say this? A discounted price; she is hoping that this will drive guests back after
the launch party earlier this year."
"Finally, some good news,"
the head of housekeeping, Paola Sanchez-Lorenzo, says to the group with her thick
Hispanic accent. "We can all use some more guests around here."
"Exactly," Carson nods back to her, and the rest of the group. "Now,
that means that we all need to be on the top of our games, because with more guests,
we will be busier then ever before."

A short time
later, Chloe is fitting her skirt in the mirror in the staff lounge room. She
must get ready quickly because she must be at the front desk in case one of the
hotel guests require something, or she has to check-in a new arriving guest. She
finishes fixing her skirt and then applies a shade of her bright red lipstick.
In the mirror behind her, Chloe arches her eyebrow when she sees Alejandro "Alex"
Sanchez-Lorenzo. The young, buff, man is her boyfriend, but also the son of the
head of housekeeping, Paola. Since Paola has been working at the resort for years,
and has made a huge impact on management, when Alex became of age, they offered
him a position being the bartender at Café Tropical, and the pool, which
he gladly accepted.
"How did you think that meeting went earlier?"
Chloe asks her lover as she moves up to him, as he puts on his white button up
shirt, which is a part of his uniform.
Alex flashes his dashing smile
back to her. "Getting more guests here will be a good thing for all of us,"
he replies to her. "We have been pretty slow lately."
Chloe
rolls her eyes back to him. "I suppose that's true," she says back to
him. "I just think that we should enjoy the downtown while we can; we know
that this won't last forever."
"And Orvilla is going to make
sure that the downtown doesn't last very long," he winks back to her. "Come
on, Chloe, it's like you're upset by this?"
Chloe groans heavily
back to him. "It's just
I hate working here. If I didn't need the money,
I would have quit al long time ago. Working the front desk isn't glamours and
Carson, he's an asshole to work for. I
I just wish that I had other options."
"I get it, I really do," Alex moves closer to her and pulls her
into a hug. "Maybe one day, things around here will be different, and you
could have another position. But until then, keep your chin up and a smile on
your face. Don't piss off Carson, Orvilla, or Arrow, otherwise you'll get nowhere."

Marco Belli is one of the lifeguards at the pool at the Barracuda
Blue. He is sitting on the highchair that overlooks the pool, which is currently
empty. The time that no one is in the pool are very boring for him, but it is
still early in the morning, so he is enjoying the sun and heat, and he remains
hopeful that, soon, the pool will have some swimmers.
His chair is up
so high that he can see over the perimeter of the resort, which he enjoys because
it gives him the chance to see the tennis courts. He is always able to see when
Liam is about to practice or leaving. Depending on the day, he can sometimes catch
the middle Thornton sibling shirtless, which excites him.
Since Marco
got the position at the Barracuda Blue, he has been crushing on Liam. Everything
about Liam makes Marco get hot under his collar. He hasn't had the opportunity
to speak or get to know Liam a great deal, because he's so busy with his tennis
career, but he longs to be closer to him.
"One day," he says
as he sees Liam moving up to the tennis court door with Leaf following him. "You
will know I'm here and we will be together. I'm determined to have you in my life."

The front doors of the Barracuda Blue slide open as two guests
move into the lobby. Behind the guests, the luggage cart is pushing pushed by
the bellman, Kelvin Jetter, whose muscular arms are visible as pushes the heavy
cart.
The guests move up to Chloe, who starts checking them in, while
Kelvin stops and looks out at the pool deck. He can see Marco at the pool, and
he is looking at something outside of the resort wall. Kelvin sighs as he has
seen Marco lusting after Liam a few times, which annoys him because he wishes
that Marco would notice him. They work together and could have something together
if Kelvin would just realize that he is into him.
He closes his eyes for
a minute and when he opens them, he is outside and walking forwards the lifeguard
chair. He taps it when he reaches it, and Marco looks down. Marco smiles back
to him as he steps down quickly, and soon, they are face to face.
"I
saw you inside and wanted to come say hi," Kelvin whispers to him. "How
are you surviving the heat?"
"I'm hot," Marco replies to
him. "How are you?"
"I'm also hot," Kelvin says back
to him. "I'm on break, wanna chill together?"
"What did
you have in mind by chill?"
"A blow job?" Kelvin suggests
with a chuckle.
"I'd love that," Marco winks back to him.
"Kelvin!" Chloe's voice snaps him back into reality, as Kelvin opens
his eyes and turns to the front desk clerk. "Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez are in
room 307, can you take their bags for them?"
"Of course,"
Kelvin nods back to him. "Right this way."
/\/\/\
Later
that afternoon, Kelvin steps onto the pool deck and feels the sun beat down on
him. He's off work now, which means he can leave the Barracuda Blue, but after
his daydream earlier about Marco, he decided to use the pool for a bit, hoping
to get Marco's attention.
He finds an open chair and drops his towel down.
He slowly peels off his shirt revealing his muscular chest. He looks up at the
lifeguard chair; he and Marco make eye contact for a moment and give each other
a head nod to each other, which makes Kelvin's heart skip a beat.
He,
then, jumps into the water and starts swimming. When he reaches the end of the
pool, he turns and can see Marco watching him as he is the only one in the water.
Kelvin gets a smile on his face, thrilled that Marco is finally seeing him, even
if they haven't spoken a word to one another.

Alex carries
a tray of drinks to one of the tables in Café Tropical, where the Thornton
children are sitting. He passes Lyzz an Aperol spritz, while the other two are
having cokes, since they aren't drinking age yet.
"Thanks Alex,"
Lyzz replies to him. "You're the best."
"Least I can do,"
Alex smiles back to the group. "You all let me know if you need anything
else, okay?"
"We will," Liam says back to him, before the
bartender makes a beeline for his bar.
"I appreciate you guys wanting
to have dinner with me," Rachelle tells her siblings. "As you know,
I am in the middle of working on my term paper for my Art History class. I am
hoping that this final grade will allow me to graduate at the top of my class."
"That would be incredible," Lyzz takes a sip of her drink. "You've
put in a lot of hard work and dedication, Rach. You deserve this."
"Lyzz
is right," Liam grins over to his sister. "You're doing amazing work."
"Thanks," Rachelle beams back to her siblings. "I
I know
this will sound weird, but I've always had an ulterior motive with my grades."
Lyzz and Liam arch their eyebrows back to her, wondering what she is talking
about. "Okay, you got us," Lyzz says with an uneasy chuck. "What
is this ulterior motive?"
"Our mother," Rachelle says with
a heavy gulp as her siblings look back at her in surprise. "I know she's
been gone for years, but I had always hoped that if I was valedictorian, our mother
would come home?"
Lyzz shakes her head back in disgust. "I
I
don't think that would happen. She's been gone for 16 years!"
"I
agree with Lyzz," Liam echoes back to her. "I don't think anything will
ever bring her back here, not that I want her back. She left us when we needed
her the most. That bitch can stay away, far away, from us forever."
Behind
them, Carson stands. He takes a deep breath listening to the Thornton children
discussing Kymberlynne; he quickly walks away from the table, looking to get back
to his office.

Paola pushes the housekeeping cart up to
one of the suites on the fourth floor. She takes a deep breath and knocks on the
door, "Housekeeping", she says as she knocks. There is no response,
so she uses her key card to open the door. She props it open by a door opener
and then moves inside the room.
She quickly scans the room to see what
she all needs to clean and replace in the room. It is a habit she got into years
ago, so she is the most efficient with her time in each room. Being so quick,
efficient, thorough, and friendly, helped her move up the ranks and now, she is
the head of the housekeeping department at the Barracuda Blue.
She realizes
that she must make the bed, bring new coffee, and change the towels in the room.
"Pretty straight forward," she whispers to herself as she moves to the
bed and starts to pull the sheets tighter together. They only change the sheets
every three days of the guests stay, or if the guests specifically request new
shirts.
As she pulls one of the sheets up, she sees something in the bed.
She pulls the sheet back and sees a golden necklace laying on the mattress. She
slowly picks it up and gets a twinkle in her eye.
"If this was in
the bed, they probably have no idea where it is," she whispers to herself.
She looks over her shoulder quickly and then places the necklace into her pocket.
"That might come in handy later."

The following
morning, Alex stands behind the bar in Café Tropical drying some glasses
that just came out of the dishwasher. The Café is pretty busy with guests
this morning, so his most common drinks that he makes are Bloody Mary's and Pina
Colada's. He looks over when Lyzz, who is wearing large black Chanel sunglasses,
comes into the Café and she makes a beeline for the bar.
"Morning,"
he smiles as he greets her. "Surprised to see you here this early."
"Ugh, I had a rough night," Lyzz admits to him as she moves her
sunglasses to the top of her head. "Do you mind if you get me a Bloody Mary?
I feel like I need something before I head upstairs to work."
Alex
chuckles back to her. "You're the customer, I'll do whatever you want."
"Thanks."
As he makes the drink, he looks over at the Thornton
heiress and can see that she has blood shot eyes. He, quickly, realizes that she
must be stoned out of her mind. He recalls how her fiancé, Ash, was killed
at the Barracuda Blue months earlier at a launch party that was held on the pool
deck. Alex, himself, was one of the bartenders that night, but he was lucky enough
to escape the bloodshed that unfolded. Clearly, however, the loss of her fiancé,
who was shot and killed that night, has been more than Lyzz can handle because
she is using drugs and drinking before starting work.
He puts the drink
in front of Lyzz. "There you go," he tells her.
She takes a
big sip of her drink and then looks back him with a sigh. "Thanks, I needed
this," she says back to him. "Uh, Alex?"
"Yea?"
"Can you do me one more favor?" Lyzz asks him in a whisper.
"Of course."
"Don't tell my Aunt that you made me this
drink," Lyzz tells him. "I don't want her to know that I'm drinking
before doing the accounting."
Alex chuckles back to her. "Of
course," he winks back to her. "Our secret, Lyzz."
At
the entrance way of the Café, Chloe stands and watches the scene unfold.
She crosses her arms over her chest, wondering if her boyfriend is flirting with
Lyzz. The sight makes her blood boil, and she turns and rushes back towards the
front desk.
Once
she is there, she tries to get herself organized, but the truth is, Chloe can't
stop thinking about Lyzz and Alex. She shakes her head as she pulls her phone
out and looks at a picture that is saved: it is a picture of her and Ash.
"She
has no idea that you were really in love with me, Ash," she whispers to herself.
"But maybe one day Lyzz Thornton will know just how much I lost when you
died. One day, she might feel the pain that I feel right now."

In the staff lounge that is behind the front desk, Carson paces back and forth.
His mind is racing over the fact that he overheard Lyzz, Liam, and Rachelle talking
about Kymberlynne the night before. He can't help but wonder if what Rachelle
is saying is true: if she ends up being named valedictorian, would that bring
Kymberlynne back to Maui and the Barracuda Blue?
"My sweet Kymberlynne,"
he whispers to himself. "Will you come home? Will you finally come back to
me?"
He closes his eyes for a moment and thinks back to another time,
many years ago. It was raining heavily, and the staff were working hard to close
the shutters on the exterior of the resort as they are worried that there might
be a hurricane coming.
Inside the staff lounge, Carson is sitting behind
a table looking over some paperwork that he needs to complete before the night
auditor does their reconciliation. That's when the door to the staff lounge opened
and Kymberlynne stormed inside.
"That son of a bitch!" she hisses
as she threw her purse down on to the sofa that is in the lounge. "He won't
get away with this!"
"Ah, Mrs. Thornton, is there anything I
can help you with?" Carson asked as he stands up and he moved closer to Kymberlynne,
who is visibly upset.
"Oh God, Carson, I'm sorry, I didn't think
anyone was in here," she admitted to him. "I thought everyone was taking
cover with the storm coming."
"I needed to finish some work
before leaving for the night," he replied to her. "And now with the
storm, I think I might be here awhile. What's
what's gotten you so upset?"
"It's nothing," she waved her hand in the air.
"It's
not nothing," he moved closer to her. "You know you can talk to me;
I thought we had become friends?"
"We are friends," Kymberlynne
replied to her. "But that's all we can be, Carson. The other night, we kissed,
and that, that can't happen again. I'm married to Samuel!"
"And
yet, I am left to believe that the son of a bitch that you just referred too is
your husband? Am I wrong?"
Kymberlynne looked back at the man and
found herself shaking her head no to him. "No, you're right."
A
loud clap of thunder can be heard as Carson moved closer to her and caressesd
her face. "Let me comfort you, even just for tonight," he whispered
to her before he leans and kissed her. "I can make you forget all your troubles."
The kiss lingered a moment longer before Kymberlynne pulls back and looked
into his eyes. She moved away from him and rushed to the door of the lounge, which
she locked. She then turned back to him and rushed back into his arms, kissing
him and unzipping his pants, eager to feel him inside her.
Carson shakes
his head, snapping back into reality. "That was the first of many times together,"
he whispers to himself. "Dear God, could it be? Could she come back if Rachelle
is at the top of her class? I long for that, more than I have ever admitted to
myself."
/\/\/\
Back in Café Tropical, Alex grabs
Lyzz's empty glass and puts it into the dishwasher. Just as he leans up from doing
that, he sees his mother, Paola, moving up to him.
"Buenos dias mi
hijo," she says as she kisses both of his cheeks.
"Morning mama,"
he replies to her. "How come you're not cleaning yet?"
"I
I
wanted to see you," she says as she looks over her shoulder and realizes
that they are alone in the café. "And we are alone, which is perfect."
"What is it? Is something wrong?"
"No," Paola
smiles back to him. "In fact, everything is perfect. We just must keep our
cool, and our time will soon come, Alejandro. You believe me, right?"
"I do," he nods back to her. "You told me about my father,
and you're right, I do deserve what is rightfully mine."
"Exactly,"
Paola whispers back to him. "Samuel Thornton is your father, and one day,
you will be running the Barracuda Blue, I will see to that."
