The
Thornton children sit at a table on the patio of Café Tropical at the Barracuda
Blue with some breakfast in front of them. The sun continues to beat down on in
Maui, so they have one of the large blue umbrellas open to keep them out of the
sun. Still, they all have their sunglasses on.
Lyzz picks up her cup of
coffee and takes a sip of it. The caffeine hits her and gives her a quick jolt,
which she needs, as she stayed up late, again, the previous night getting stoned
while she was thinking about her fiancé, Ash, being killed months earlier.
On top of that, the previous evening, her and her siblings ended up talking about
their mother, Kymberlynne, who abandoned them after their father, Samuel, died
six years earlier. Since Kymberlynne left Maui, they have not heard a word from
her, which has left them all feeling despondent, angry, but also that they miss
her.
Alex,
then, appears at the table and looks at the children. "Can I bring you anything
else?"
"I
think we are all good for now, thanks Alex," Liam replies to him, before
the bartender nods back to him and then leaves.
"You're quiet this
morning, what are you thinking about?" Rachelle finally breaks the silence
between the siblings as she takes a bite of her French toast.
Lyzz sighs
back to her siblings. "Our conversation last night," she admits to them.
"It was a difficult conversation for me to have, you know, talking about
Ash and Mom."
"We didn't mean to upset you," Liam replies
to his sister. "We just wanted to check in with you."
"I
know, I get it," Lyzz waves her hand back to them. "I appreciate that
you are checking in, it's just hard, you know?"
"Do you want
to talk about it more?" Rachelle asks her. "Maybe talking about it will
help?"
"No, I'm good," Lyzz forces a smile on her face.
"I have to get to work shortly."
"Are you still liking
doing the accounting at the Barracuda Blue?" Liam asks her next. "You
said the other night at dinner with Aunt Orvilla that you have no interest in
taking over Meccanica."
"Doing the accounting is great,"
Lyzz takes another sip of her coffee. "It keeps me in the company without
having the responsibility of running the entire ship, you know? I don't think
I'm ready, or ever will be, to run the entire company; that's a lot of work."
"Yea, I get that," Liam nods back to her. "I still feel the
same way as I did; I don't want to run Meccanica either because of my tennis dreams."
"Well, if you two are okay with it, I'd still like to run the company,"
Rachelle admits to her siblings. "Based on my grades and business acumen,
I think I would be a terrific CEO, as long as you two are okay with that? I know
it's unconventional, the youngest taking over
"
"I am fine
with it," Liam looks back at Rachelle. "I am proud of you and all your
hard work is clearly paying off."
"Ditto," Lyzz nods back
at her sister. "If you want it, go for it."

Lyzz
sits in her small office at the Barracuda Blue typing into her laptop as she is
doing some accounting for the company. Her office is next to Orvilla's but is
a fraction of the size as she is only doing the bookkeeping. The size of the office,
however, doesn't bother Lyzz, in fact, she likes that she is pretty much alone
most of the day. The only time that Orvilla, or any other staff member of Meccanica,
bothers her is when they have questions on any of the reporting that she completes,
which is not often.
The Barracuda blue is owned and managed by Meccanica.
It is rare for the CEO of the company to be based out of one of the resorts, however,
Orvilla decided to make the Barracuda Blue her base because the family resides
there. It is easy for her to go to the Big Island, where Meccanica's office tower
is, when she needs too, and the same applies to Lyzz, but she rarely leaves Maui
right now.
She can't help but think about Ash, her fiancé, and
how he encouraged her to take the accountant position at the company. For so long,
Lyzz wanted nothing to do with Meccanica, or the Barracuda Blue, because it brought
up so many bad memories of Samuel dying, and then Kymberlynne abandoning her and
her siblings. But Ash, he told her that taking the job would be a great way for
her to honor Samuel's memory as he would have wanted her, and her siblings, involved
with the company in some capacity.
She is grateful for the encouragement
because she does like the work that she is doing, and in some ways, it makes her
feel closer to Samuel. She still misses him every day; she can't believe that
within two days of her life, when she was 15 years old, she lost both her parents.
In many ways, she has yet to deal with those losses.
She stands up from
her desk, trying to clear her head from the memories of the past. She looks out
the window, which is a view of the patio of the Barracuda Blue; just beyond that
is the Pacific Ocean. One of the reasons that the Barracuda Blue has always been
such a population destination is because of the stunning ocean views that it has
as it is perked on a cliff on the southern tip of Maui.
As she looks at
the patio, she closes her eyes for a moment and is taken back to the night of
the Pink Roses launch, about six months earlier. She had convinced Orvilla to
allow Rockwell Mining and Roboto, two companies that we were working together
on the Pink Roses campaign, to hold their launch party at the resort. Two thugs,
however, kidnapped her friend, Cole Rockwell's, sister, Stacey Rockwell, and they
demanded a ransom. They, eventually, pulled out their guns and shots were fired.
One of the bullets hit Ash, and he was killed on the spot.
Lyzz opens
her eyes and lets a tear fall down her cheek. "Another loss in my life,"
she whispers to herself. "I
I don't know how much more I can take of
this."
She rushes back to her desk and opens her large Louie Vuitton
purse and grabs her IPhone. She unlocks it and finds a contact in her phone, pressing
the call button. "It's Lyzz," she says when the person she called answers.
"I need more snow, how quickly can you get me some?"
"Perfect,
let's meet at the marina in an hour?" she suggests to him. "Perfect,
see you then."
She hangs up the phone and takes a deep breath, knowing
that, eventually, she will have to stop taking the drugs, but for right now, it
is all that is helping her stay alive.

Orvilla looks out
of the large windows in her office at the Barracuda Blue with her arms folded
across her chest. She often will look out into the Pacific Ocean and get lost
in her thoughts. She finds it helpful for herself as she has come up with her
best ideas doing this. Currently, she is focused on her plan to ensure she remains
as the CEO of Meccanica. She has worked far too hard to become the CEO for the
Thornton children to ruin that for her now.
"If only Samuel hadn't
put that damn stipulation into his will that once his youngest child turned 18,
the three children wouldn't have the opportunity to run Meccanica," she whispers
to herself. "I wouldn't have to worry about anything, but now, I have to
ensure that none of those kids want my job. Thankfully, only Rachelle has expressed
interest, but I want to ensure that Lyzz and Liam remain firm with their decision."
She turns from the window and picks up her mug of coffee and takes a long
sip of it. "That's why I already have plans in motion that will take care
of each of them; one by one, my nieces and nephew will find themselves embroiled
in a scandal. Not only will they realize that they aren't fit to run Meccanica,
but the public opinion and the opinion of the board will feel the exact same way."
She chuckles to herself for a moment before pauses when her IPhone starts
to ring. She arches her eyebrow at the unknown number flashing on her screen.
"Orvilla Anderson," she says as she answers her call. "Oh,
it's you. What is the latest?" she pauses while the caller to answer her.
"She asked you for more cocaine? And you're meeting her at the marina?"
she asks while she gets a devilish grin on face. "No, this is perfect. Just
do me one small favor? Lace everything with fentanyl. I want my niece to be so
wasted she won't know what hit her."
She hangs up the phone and sets
it down on her desk as she puts her finger to her chin and tapes it. "Yes
Lyzzy girl, you won't know what hit you when I am done with you," she says
with a wicked chuckle.
/\/\/\
Lyzz steps out of her white Porsche
after she parks at the marina. She puts on her large Chanel sunglasses and pulls
a cigarette out of her purse, which she lights quickly. She deeply inhales, which
calms her nerves. She hates this part of her drug use; she is always worried that
someone she knows will see her buying her stash, which would be a scandal for
her, her family, and the family business. One thing that has been ingrained in
her mind is that nothing should ever impact Meccanica, or the Barracuda Blue.
She walks down to the pier, where there are many yachts' rocking back and
forth in the water. Because the area is very exclusive, there are only the largest,
the most luxurious, and most expensive boats at this marina. As she walks by the
boats, she happens to see the Thornton family yacht. The words, "American
Buoy" are written in bold blue letters on the side of the boat. Lyzz quickly
takes her eyes off the American Buoy as she has horrible memories of the yacht
because it is where Samuel died.
She doesn't even know why the family
still has the boat, if she's honest. They haven't used the boat since Samuel's
death, except for when Orvilla has thrown a couple of her lavish boat parties;
Lyzz, however, was also too young to attend, not that she is complaining about
not being on the boat.
As she gets closer to the dock, she happens to
see Darryl Westin, a man that should look more attractive than he is. The drugs
that he has used over the last ten years has taken its toll on him, and the cracked
skin on his face is not doing him any favors. That being said, Lyzz really doesn't
care about his looks; she only cares that he is her dealer, and he has the goods
that she needs.
"Darryl," she says in a whispered voice. "You
have my snow?"
"It's right here sugar," he pulls out a
bag filled with white powder. "You have my coin?"
"Here,"
Lyzz hands him a handful of cash, which he quickly counts.
"Nice
doing business with you beautiful," Darryl passes her the bag of cocaine.
"Call me when you need a refill."
Lyzz quickly puts the drugs
in her large Louie Vuitton bag, adjusts her sunglasses, and then quickly rushes
away from the marina, already looking forward to her next hit.
/\/\/\
About thirty minutes later, Lyzz is swiftly walking through the Barracuda
Blue towards the elevator. She wants to get back to her office on the third floor
of the resort. However, she finds herself stopping into Café Tropical,
and she makes a beeline for the bar. While the bar isn't open yet, being a member
of the family that owns the resort, she really has free-range to do whatever she
wants. Once she gets behind the bar, she bends down and finds the mickey's of
vodka. She grabs one and puts it into her purse, before she stands back up and
rushes towards the elevator. Luckily for her, Alex wasn't anywhere in sight, otherwise
she could have been busted by the bartender, even though she knows that she could
have likely talked her way out of it.
Once she's in the elevator, she
takes a deep breathe trying to calm her nerves. As soon as the elevator doors
open, she rushes towards her office. Once she's inside her office, she closes,
and locks, the door, then sets her purse down and, immediately, pulls out the
bag of cocaine and vodka. She rolls out a line of the cocaine and quickly snorts
it up. She follows that up by opening the bottle of vodka and taking a swig of
it.
She moves to the office chair and collapses in it with a smile on
her face, finally feeling the relief of the grief that she has been in for months
on end.
/\/\/\
Meanwhile, in Orvilla's office, she remains seated
at her desk looking at the latest bookings for the Barracuda Blue. She knows that
the numbers are still down because of the negative press the resort received following
the launch party of the Pink Roses, where multiple people were gunned down, including
Lyzz's fiancé, Ash, and Quinn Cunningham, a high profiled member from Blackmore
Ltd.
"I suppose I could put a couple of the suites on a small, discounted
price," she purses her lips together. "That might get some people back
to the resort, and when they see that everything is fine, just by word of mouth
and social media posts, more people will start booking once more."
"I
hate the idea of putting any of my luxurious rooms on sale, but it might be the
best possible solution for right now," she sighs to herself, as she stands
up and moves over to the small bar in her office. She, normally, doesn't like
to drink while she's at work, but she feels like a shot of vodka will calm her
nerves. The thought of discounting any room at the Barracuda Blue makes her sick
to her stomach; her resort has always been known to be one of the best resorts
in the world, and guests have always paid top dollar for their experiences. She
shoots back the vodka and sighs again. "I have to do what I have to do."
Before she can say anything further, her IPhone starts to buzz. She quickly
walks back to the desk and sees the unknown number flashing across the screen
again. "Darryl, you better have good news for me," she says as she answers
the call. She listens to what the drug dealer has to tell her. "Perfect,
I'm glad that Lyzz bought the drugs from you. But what I really need to know is,
did you follow my instructions? Did you lace that cocaine with fentanyl?"
Orvilla gets a sly grin on her face as she listens to what Darryl is telling
her. "Oh, that's wonderful," Orvilla responds to him as he has confirmed
that he did what she said. "You will see a deposit of funds into your account,
thank you for working with me on this. And Darryl, if I need you to do this again,
you better not let me down. Alright daring, ta ta!"
Orvilla places
her phone back down on her desk and gets a grin on her face. "Lyzzy, dear,
you will be so fucked up, you will never be able to take control of this company.
And that's exactly what I wanted."
/\/\/\
Back in Lyzz's
office, she has passed out in her large office chair. The combination of the cocaine
(which she doesn't know was laced with fentanyl) and vodka gave her a quick high,
but also made her incredibly tired. This is also a result of the fact that she
hasn't been sleeping well as she has been having nightmares about Ash's shooting
months earlier.
As she sleeps, her head twitches a little as she is having
a vivid dream. She moans a little as she softly moves her head in the chair.
"Mom! Mom, where are you?" a panicked Lyzz asks as she rushes towards
the marina. She reaches the dock and can see the American Buoy, her family yacht
moving out of the marina into the open ocean.
Suddenly, Lyzz can see her
mother, Kymberlynne emerge on the boat deck. The sundress she is wearing is flowing
in the wind. Suddenly, a figure emerges from behind Kymberlynne.
Lyzz
squints from the shore as she tries to see who, or what, is behind her mother.
She can't place it, but she has a horrible feeling about what is unfolding in
front of her. She screams when she sees a bloody figure behind Kymberlynne.
"Mom! Look out! Mommmmm!" Lyzz screams.
But the screams
fall on deaf ears; the bloody figure clubs Kymberlynne over the head. The blow
causes her to fall over the edge of the yacht, which causes a huge splash in the
ocean!
"Noooo!" Lyzz screams in horror as she realizes that
her mother is dead. "No! Mom!"
She manages to catch her breath
for a moment and she looks back at the yacht. She, once again, squints hard to
try to make out who the person on the boat is that just killed her mother. She
gasps in horror when she sees the face of the killer: her father, Samuel!
Suddenly, Lyzz jolts awake in the chair of her office with a scream. She tries
to catch her breath as she looks around and realizes that she was dreaming.
"It
it was a nightmare
a horrible nightmare," she says
as she leans back into the chair, feeling somewhat relieved that it was a dream,
but wondering what the hell it meant.
/\/\/\
Orvilla rushes out
of her office towards the office door right next to hers. She knocks on the door
before she opens it.
"Lyzz?" she asks as she sees her niece
sitting in the large office chair. "What on earth happened? I thought I hear
you scream?"
Lyzz looks back at Orvilla and gulps heavily. She knows
that she can't tell her Aunt, her boss, that she was sleeping off a cocaine high
because she, amongst other things, get fired. Still, she knows that she has to
tell Orvilla something, because she did scream.
"Yes, sorry,"
Lyzz stands up and fixes her top quickly. "I
I
uh
"
"What? What is it?" Orvilla asks her as she puts her hand on her
hip.
"I thought I saw a mouse," Lyzz lies to her quickly as
Orvilla arches her eyebrow. "Sorry, I
I was mistaken, but you know
me and rodents."
"A mouse?" Orvilla asks her, realizing
that Lyzz is stoned on the laced cocaine. "That's
that's impossible!"
"I know, I know," Lyzz tries to calm her Aunt down. "I know
I was wrong, I am sorry for worrying you; I'm fine, I promise."
/\/\/\
After her conversation with Orvilla, Lyzz realized that she was in no shape
to continue to work for the day. She has no idea why the line of coke hit her
harder than usual; she normally can handle a line, or two, at a time, but today's
rocked her to her very core.
She moves into her large bedroom in the Thornton
mansion and closes the door behind herself. She walks to the window, where she
can see the rolling waves of the Pacific Ocean crashing into their private beach
that is on their property. The images from her nightmare haunt her to her very
core. She finds herself wrapping her arms around herself to try to comfort herself.
"What's happening to me?" she asks herself as she turns around and
moves to her desk, where she picks up a picture of her and Ash. She feels her
eyes swell with water at the sight of her dead fiancé. She hugs the picture
frame and slowly moves to her bed, where she collapses in a pool of tears. The
tears soon turn into sobs of pain.
/\/\/\
Orvilla looks out of
her large office window at the Barracuda Blue with a grin on her face. Her meeting
with Lyzz went better then she expected; she could tell that her niece had been
stoned, which caused her outburst. Orvilla realized that Lyzz was trying to think
of a reason for her scream, and she thought it was lame that she could only think
of a mouse sighting.
"Poor little girl," Orvilla chuckles to
herself. "She has no idea that she was, not only, doing cocaine, but also
fentanyl. If she continues down that path, her actions could prove to be deadly."
She hears her door open so she spins around and sees Arrow moving into the
office. "You look happy," Arrow observes back to his friend.
"It
is because I am, Justin," Orvilla responds to him. "I am on cloud nine."
"Why? What's happened?"
"My plan to ensure that I remain
CEO of Meccanica, it is going better then I expected," Orvilla reveals to
him quickly. "My niece, Lyzz, she's been
dare I say, neutralized."
Arrow arches his eyebrow back to her. "Sounds like you have a lot to
fill me in on," he tells her.
"Have a seat my friend,"
Orvilla tells him. "I'll pour us a drink and tell you everything. The main
thing you need to know," she says as she pours two vodkas at the bar. "Is
that no one, or anything, will stop me. I will remain as CEO of Meccanica, even
if it is the last thing I do."
