"Well,
Celeste," Mac Rockwell looks over at his wife, Celeste Baldwin, who bites
her lip before he looks over at his son, Cole Rockwell, who folds his arms across
his chest, as they stand in the living room of the Rockwell mansion. Mac has wanted
to have this conversation for awhile now; he sees no reason not to have it now.
"Which one of us do you love? Which man do you want to be with? The decision
is yours."
Celeste turns around as tears fill her eyes. She never
actually believed that her husband would ask her which man she wanted to be with;
she never thought that she had a choice to make. She made a mistake with Cole,
in her mind. "Do you want our marriage to work?" she finally asks him
as she turns around to face him, hoping to read his mind through looking into
his eyes.
"I want to put my life back together," Mac explains
to her. "I want to get my company back. I want Lexington to know that I will
always be he is father, regardless of what DNA says. And, I want to bury this
affair between you and Cole. But, if you love Cole, then you should be with him.
I don't want to keep my son from happiness. And, if he makes you happy, then you
two should be together. I want you to be happy too, Celeste. I just want all of
this to be put behind us. "
"Dad, I don't know what to say,"
Cole admits to him as he comes up to his father. "I never meant to hurt you.
But, the fact that you would let us be together, it shows the kind of man that
you are."
"I know that Cole," Mac nods back to him. "I've
heard how you speak to Celeste; it is clear that you care deeply for her."
"I do," Cole admits to Mac as he looks back at Celeste. "You
know that I do, Celeste."
Celeste nods back to him. "I know
you do, Cole."
"So, it's time to make a choice then,"
Mac tells his wife. "We are both grown men, we can accept your decision,
right Cole?"
"Absolutely,"
Cole agrees with Mac, thinking that Celeste will choose him. "Mac is right.
This has to end."
"See,"
Mac looks back at Celeste. "He agrees with me. Which means, all you have
to do is make your decision."
Before Celeste can answer, Stacey
Rockwell appears in the doorway of the living room. "Thank God you're all
here," she says, almost trying to catch her breath. "It will save me
from having to say this again."
"What's going on Stacey? You
look upset about something?" Mac observes to his daughter.
"I
just got a phone call," Stacey reveals to them. "It's about Mom."
"Lydia? I'm assuming she's finally done it, she's gone and married Kent
Blackmore?" Mac asks her.
Stacey shakes her head no. "She was
arrested before the wedding could take place."
"What?"
Cole gasps in shock. "What she charged with?"
"Corporate
espionage," Stacey continues to tell them. "I don't know all of the
details, but she didn't marry Kent, she was arrested before the ceremony took
place."
"I know what happened" Lucinda Rockwell announces
to everyone, as she stands at the doorway with Lex behind her.
"Lex,
you're here," Mac rushes up to his son and hugs him. "I've been trying
to call you."
"I know, I'm sorry," Lex tells him as they
exit their embrace. "I needed some time to adjust. But, right now, we have
to hear what Grandma has to say about Mom. We'll talk later?"
"I'd
like that very much," Mac smiles back to him before he looks at Lucinda.
"Alright, mother. What did Lydia do that caused her to get arrested on her
wedding day?"
Lucinda moves over to the bar and pours herself a
gin and tonic. "I should have a drink before I tell you this story,"
she says before having her first sip of the gin. "This happened years ago."
"What happened?" Celeste asks her.
"You see,"
Lucinda begins to tell everyone. "The day after you," she says looking
at Mac. "Caught her in bed with Kent, you lost the Kelsey Lake mine. I know,
for a fact, that she went to your office, looked at your Kelsey Lake mine file
and told Kent Blackmore how much you were going to bid on the Kelsey Lake mine."
"My God," Mac whispers as he covers his mouth. "That's how
Blackmore Ltd was able to outbid me. She told that son of a bitch what I was planning
and he was able to outbid me!"
"Exactly," Lucinda takes
another sip of her gin. "That's why she conducted this plan with Lexington's
paternity, to prevent you from asking questions about the mine."
"This
woman just will not stop!" Mac protests, once again in shock by what Lydia
has done to him.
"Well, from where I stand, she's getting exactly
what she deserves. I hope they throw the book at her," Lex quips to everyone,
as they all try to process what Lydia has done.
***
Kent Blackmore is moved into a room with a table and two chairs. Above the
table is a low hanging, industrial light fixture, that he knows Lydia is sure
to hate. He, on the other hand, just wants to ensure that she is okay. He can't
imagine the hell she has gone through since she was dragged away from the penthouse
in handcuffs, arrested for something that happened over 20 years ago.
He looks up when a door opens and Lydia quickly comes inside, her eyes are red
from all the tears she has shed since being at in jail. She is still wearing her
wedding dress, but she doesn't look as radiant as she did before all of this happened.
"Kent, thank God," she rushes into his arms, happy to see a loving
face.
"No touching," the guard tells them as they hold each
other for a moment longer before exiting their embrace.
"You
have to get me out of here. There must be some kind of mistake!"
"I'm working on it already," he replies to her, trying to keep her calm.
"I've hired the best lawyer."
"Good, I should be out in
the next couple of hours then?"
Kent shrugs. "I'm not sure.
These charges, they seem pretty serious!"
"But I haven't done
anything," Lydia pleads with him. "Corporate espionage? I've only been
in a power at Rockwell Mining for a short time. And, I would never do anything
to hurt Blackmore Ltd."
"I spoke to the officer who made the
arrest," Kent explains to her. "These charges are regarding something
that happened a long time ago."
Lydia's mouth turns to complete
and utter shock. "You don't mean
?"
He nods as he looks
over at the guard, indicating that she can't say anything further. "But don't
you worry, I will do everything in my power to make sure you are a free woman."
"Please hurry," she says, grabbing his hands. "I can't stay
in this place for very long, Kent. I just won't survive. I won't!"
***
Celeste sets her file down on her desk
and picks up her glass of water, taking a healthy sip of it. After Stacey revealed
that Lydia had been arrested, she left the mansion and came to the office to get
her mind off things. She still can't believe that Mac is actually letting her
choose between him and Cole; she never believed that she would actually have to
choose between the two men. It seems like something out of a soap opera to her.
She shakes her head. "Maybe some time here will help me realize what
I need to do," she whispers to herself.
"Talking to yourself?"
Stacey smiles as she moves inside the office.
"Yea, sorry, I guess
I was just thinking out loud," Celeste replies to her as she stands up from
her chair. "What is the latest with Lydia?"
Stacey shrugs her
shoulders. "Mac was going to make some phone calls and see if he could learn
anything," she tells her. "I'm not sure that he will learn anything,
however, since they aren't married anymore."
"I just can't
believe that she was arrested," Celeste tells her. "And, at her wedding,
no less."
"I know."
"Part of me things that
this is karma though," Celeste continues to tell her. "After all, she
did cause my miscarriage."
"She claims it was an accident,"
Stacey reminds her. "But, let's not dwell about that. Let's try to get some
work done."
"Yes, we need to work on this line," Celeste
tells her. "Rockwell Mining might take another hit because of Lydia's arrest.
Our collection might be the positive PR this company needs right now."
"Lydia Rockwell was arrested?" Marat Kafelinkov asks as he comes
into the office. "I guess that is why I didn't see her in her office."
"That's right, Marat," Celeste smiles as she moves up to him and
they kiss on both cheeks. "How are you?"
"I'm fine, we
should do lunch again soon."
"I'd love that," she purses
her lips together.
"Wait," Stacey interrupts their conversation.
"You two know each other?"
Celeste nods back to her. "From
a long time ago, we both lived in New York at the same time."
"Small
world," Stacey tries to put a smile on her face.
"Very,"
Marat tells her, as he makes eye contact with Celeste, knowing most of their past
has to be kept mum. "Speaking of lunch, you never got back to me either.
What does a guy have to do around here to get a woman to accept his lunch date?"
"Maybe not be a player?" Stacey chuckles back to him.
"Celeste and I are just friends," Marat informs her. "You and I,
however, we could do beautiful things together."
Stacey feels her
cheeks flush. "Like I told you Marat, I'm flattered, but I am still grieving
my fiancé."
"I understand," he says back to her.
"But I'm here waiting, in case you change your mind. Now, if you'll excuse
me, I'm going to make some calls back to Russia."
Celeste waits
until Marat is out of the office, before she moves over to Stacey. "What
was that about?"
"What? Marat?" Stacey asks her as Celeste
nods. "He's been flirting with me. No big deal."
"No big
deal? Have you seen how handsome he is?" Celeste asks her, surprised Stacey
isn't all over him.
"Of course I have," Stacey admits to her.
"But, I just lost Houston. I'm not ready. I need time to mourn."
"I know that Houston meant a lot to you," Celeste tells her. "But,
these things sometimes just happen. There's no reason. And, you're a young beautiful
woman. Don't let yourself get caught up in your grief forever. You could be passing
up another great opportunity."
***
Cole moves into the country club dining room and walks over to the bar. His
mind is racing a million miles per second after hearing that Lydia was arrested
on her wedding day to Kent. Not only that, but he recalsl how Mac is asked Celeste
which man she'd like to be with. Cole never thought that Celeste would actually
get make this decision; now, he just hopes that she decides she wants to be with
him because he knows that he still loves her desperately. Moreover, he hopes he
and Mac can rebuild their relationship once this is all said and done because
he realizes that is the most important thing.
"I'll have a bourbon,
please," Cole tells the bartender as he sits down and picks up a couple of
the nuts that are in a glass dish on the bar.
"Drinking so early
in the day?" Vivian Blackmore asks Cole as she sits next to him at the bar.
"Have you had a long day?"
"Vivian Blackmore," Cole
gives her half a grin. "I haven't seen you in ages."
"I
believe the last time we saw one another, you were only knee high. You've certainly
grown up into a young man."
"Would you care for a drink?"
he asks her as she nods back to him.
She looks at the bartender. "I'll
have a champagne cocktail. So, why are you drinking here, alone, at this hour?"
Cole arches his eyebrow. "I guess I have a lot on my mind," he
reveals to her. "Coming here, I thought it would clear my mind."
Vivian smiles back to him. "You should try to find a way to blow off
some steam," she tells him as he looks back at her.
"And, how
do you propose I do that?"
Her hand finds his leg and she squeezes
it a little. "I have a few ideas," she purrs back to him.
"I
bet you do," he winks back to her. "Thanks for the offer, but I really
should get back home. There's some family problems right now that I should work
out."
"Very well," she purses her lips together, unable
to hide her attraction to the much younger man. "Thanks for the drink, Cole."
***
In the Rockwell mansion living
room, Mac looks at his IPad and feels his blood pressure slowly start to rise.
With the news of Lydia's arrest spreading around the world, the stock value at
Rockwell Mining continues to slowly drop. Now, not only are the stocks dropping
at Rockwell Mining but also at Blackmore Ltd, because Lydia is a key player at
the company as well.
"This can't go on," Mac stands up and
moves to the bar to pour himself a scotch. "I have to do something, anything,
to get my company back."
"Dad?" Lex calls out from the
door, as Mac turns to see Lex. "I'm glad you're here. I wanted to have a
moment alone with you."
"Would you care for a drink?"
Mac asks him as Lex nods back to him.
"I know we had a moment earlier,
but I wanted you to know that I don't care what anybody says or what any altered
paternity test says, you're my father. I don't want anything to change between
us."
Mac swallows down some of his scotch. "I'm glad you feel
that way, Lexington. Because, you're my son in every way that matters. I don't
care what Kent Blackmore thinks about anything, you're my son and you always will
be."
They move into a quick hug and they look at each other. "You're
the best father I could have asked for," Lex tells him, his eyes filling
with water.
"I appreciate that, Lex," Mac replies to him. "You
know that I love you?"
"I
do, of course I do," Lex nods back to him. "And, I feel the same. I
don't want anything to change with us."
Mac
smiles back to him as they hug again. "Nothing is going to change, Lexington.
You're my son, and that is all that matters. Okay?" he asks him, as Lex nods
back to him before whiping his eye. "I'm glad that we cleared the air because
I could use your help."
"What's going on? Is it Mom? Has she
been released from jail?"
"I don't believe so," Mac admits
to him. "But the arrest has certainly left its impact. Look at this,"
Mac passes him the IPad, with the Rockwell Mining stocks on the screen.
"Share prices are falling drastically," Lex notes to him, echoing Mac's
statements.
"Exactly," Mac takes another sip of his scotch.
"I have to do something to get my company back before it's too late."
Lex suddenly gets an idea and looks at Mac. "I have the perfect answer
for you," he reveals, as he locks eyes on Mac. "A way to get Rockwell
Mining back."
***
Cole opens
the front door to the mansion and moves inside, just as Lex emerges from the living
room, fresh from his meeting with Mac.
"Lex, is Dad in there?"
Cole asks his brother.
"Yea he is," Lex replies to him. "I'm
not sure for how much longer, however."
"I have to talk to
him," Cole tells him. "Before you go, Lex, I just wanted to let you
know that I don't care what has happened between you, Mac and Kent Blackmore.
I'll always consider you my brother."
"I appreciate that Cole,"
Lex shakes his brother's hand. "Especially since I know we haven't always
seen eye to eye."
"That's water under the bridge," Cole
tells him. "Blood is thicker than water. We'll chat soon?"
"Absolutely," Lex smiles back to him, as they shake hands.
Cole moves over to the living room and walks inside. "Dad, I'm glad I found
you. Is Celeste home?"
Mac turns around and looks at his son. "I
believe she got home a short time ago, why? What has happened?"
Cole shrugs his shoulders. "Nothing other than I'd like to finish the conversation
from earlier, before we found out about Lydia's arrest."
Mac nods
back to him. "Yes, since Celeste was going to make a decision about her future."
"Exactly," Cole tells him. "For what it's worth Dad, I don't
want to hurt you. I just want Celeste to be happy."
"I want
the same thing," Mac replies to him. "Regardless of who she wants to
be with, our relationship will not be impacted."
Cole nods back
to him. "That's exactly what I was thinking."
"I'm not
interrupting, am I?" Celeste asks as she comes into the living room, her
arms folded across her chest.
"Not at all," Mac replies to
her. "We were just talking about our situation."
"Ah yes,"
Celeste nods back to them.
"Have you made a decision?" Cole
asks her. "Do you know who you want to be with?"
Celeste pours
herself a brandy and takes a sip of it. "I don't want to hurt either one
of you. Nor do I want this to be more complicated than it has to be."
"Cole and I already have come to an understanding," Mac tells her.
"We aren't going to let this come between our relationship."
"But the decision is still yours to make, Celeste," Cole interjects.
"Which one of us do you really want to be with? Which one of us do you love?"
She takes another sip of her brandy before she sets her glass down. She moves
up to Cole and looks him in the eyes. "That night we shared, I know it was
special for you, Cole," she tells him, as he feels butterflies in his stomach.
"But, it was just a night for me. When I told you that I thought it was a
mistake, I meant it. I love my husband. I love Mac. I want to make my marriage
work. But, can you accept that?"
Cole feels his heart move into
his throat. He fakes a smile on his face. "Of course I can," he whispers
back to her, trying to stay composed but clearly hurt by her decision. "If
he makes you happy, then I will step aside."
"He does make
me happy," Celeste continues to tell him before she looks at Mac. "That
is, if you will take me back? Will you give our marriage another chance?"
"I would like that very much," Mac smiles as he moves up to her
and kisses her on the lips. "I love you Celeste."
"I love
you too," Celeste smiles back to her husband as Cole quickly leaves the room,
trying to catch his breath.
***
"You're back so soon after you left," Vivian says to Cole, as he sits
next to her at the bar of the country club. "Everything okay with the family?"
Cole orders a double scotch before he looks back at beautiful, older woman
next to him. "Yea, never better," he says, his voice full of sarcasm.
He can't believe that Celeste actually choose Mac over him.
His drink
comes and quickly slams it back. "Whoa, something is obviously wrong. Do
you want to talk about?"
"Nope," Cole quickly replies
to her. "I don't think talking is what I need right now."
She
purses her lips together. "What is it that you think you need right now?"
He looks at her and notices how beautiful she really is. He moves in and
kisses her on the lips. "Is your offer still on the table?"
"More than on the table," she purrs back to him. "I have a room
upstairs."
"Lead the way," he tells her, his eyes full
of lust.

"I'm glad that
I found you," Jarek Williams tells Lex, as he comes into the condo that they
are sharing now that they are married.
"I brought some of my stuff
over from the mansion," Lex replies to him. "I still have more there,
but I'll grab it at a later time."
"I heard about your Mom
on the news, are you okay?" Jarek asks his husband, as they share a hug.
"I'm fine," Lex admits to him, exiting their embrace. "While
I have no proof, I still believe that Lydia drugged me to get me to sign my proxy
over to her. And, she lied to me for years about who my father is. I think she's
getting exactly what she deserves."
"Ouch," Jarek grins
back to him. "Remind me not to get on your bad side."
"I
kinda like it when you're on my bad side," Lex winks back to him. "Anyways,
what's up? You said you were happy that you found me?"
"I am,"
Jarek nods back to him. "I think it's time, Lex. I think it's time for us
to announce to your family that you're gay and that we are married. I mean, Mac
will figure it out since you're not living at the mansion anymore."
Lex moves up to Jarek and kisses him passionately on the lips. "I think it's
a great idea," Lex tells him. "It's time they know where we stand. And,
my family could have some good news."
"So, you'll do it? You
really will do it?"
"Of course I will," Lex smiles back
to him. "I know that the marriage was a surprise but I'm not upset that we
are married, Jarek. I love you."
"I love you too," Jarek
can't stop smiling back to him, mostly because his plan is working out perfectly.
"Because I have another favor to ask."
"What's that?"
Lex arches his eyebrow.
"I've changed my will this morning,"
Jarek reveals to him. "To ensure that you're left with everything in the
event something happens to me."
"Nothing will happen to you,"
Lex tells him, unsure of why Jarek is mentioning this.
"I hope not,"
Jarek says. "But, I think you should do the same. I think you should update
your will now that we are married. Just in case, better safe than sorry, right?"
***
Following his conversation with
Jarek, Lex drove to the police station. He had been wrestling with whether or
not he should visit Lydia, but he just couldn't stay away. He knows that his mother
has done some horrible things, and he wanted to ensure that she knows how he feels
about her.
"Mr. Rockwell," a police officer announces as he
comes into the waiting room. "You can see your mother now."
Lex stands up and follows the officer into a visiting room. He stays standing
up as another door opens and Lydia emerges.
"Oh Lexington,"
she, now wearing an orange jump suit, gasps at the sight of her son. "I'm
so glad that you came to see me. You're the only one of my children who has visited
me, you know."
"I had no idea," Lex whispers back to her.
"I don't even know why I am here."
"I am your mother,"
she reminds him, trying to get him to be happy to see her.
"I know
who you are," he spits to her. "You're the woman who has lied to me
my entire life about who my father is. You're the woman who drugged me to get
me to sign that damn proxy over to you! Yes, you're my mother, but you've hurt
me in the most brutal of ways."
Lydia shakes her head, shocked by
what she is hearing from Lex. "If you hate me so much, then why are you here?"
"So you can hear it from me," he continues to be brutal with her.
"This wouldn't have had the same impact if Mac told you. I want you to know
from me how much I hate you and how much I hope you stay in jail for a very, very
long time."
"You don't mean that!" Lydia cries back to
him. "I'm your mother, Lexington!"
"Like hell I don't,"
Lex yells at her. "Get comfortable, Mom, because you're going to be in here
for a very, very long time. I'll see to that."
***
Jarek rushes over to the front door of the condo and opens it. "Can
I help you?" he asks Kent Blackmore, who is standing on the other side of
the entrance.
"I was looking for Lex Rockwell," Kent replies
to him, eyeing the young man. "I understand this is his new address?"
"Yes, that's correct," Jarek says to him. "He just stepped
out for a moment, he will be back soon. Would you like to come in and wait?"
"Yes, thank you," Kent moves into the condo, as he continues to
look around. He can't place it, but something feels off to him.
"Can
I offer you a drink of some kind?"
"No, I'm fine," Kent
replies to him. "I find this interesting."
"What?"
Jarek asks him.
"That Lex would move out of the Rockwell Mansion
and into this condo with a roommate."
Jarek folds his arms across
his chest, upset by Kent's comments. "We aren't roommates."
Kent arches his eyebrow. "I see."
"We are married,"
Jarek shocks Kent by his revelation, who openly gasps. "Lex and I are husbands."
***
"God, I don't want to see
anyone else today," Lydia announces as she comes back into the visitors room
and sees Mac standing there. "Did you have to come so quickly after Lex?"
"Lex was here?" Mac asks his ex-wife, who nods back to him.
"He was so cruel to me," she reveals to him. "I have to get
out of here so I can make him understand why I've done the things that I have
done. Will you help me?
"Help
you?" Mac laughs at her, shocked by what she is asking. "You've got
to be kidding me."
"No,
I need to make up for everything I've done," she pleads with him. "To
everyone, I've hurt."
"It doesn't seem like you will be getting
out of here anytime soon," Mac admits to her as he moves closer to her. "And,
while you're in here, Rockwell Mining and Blackmore Ltd are suffering."
"What are you talking about?" she asks him.
He throws
a newspaper down on the table. "Read the headlines, Lydia," he tells
her. "Stock prices in both companies are down drastically because you, the
CEO, is behind bars."
"But, I haven't done anything wrong,"
she tries to plead her case.
"Whether or not that is true,"
he continues to tell her. "The public perception is that you're have done
something very wrong," he says back to her. "And, until you can prove
this, the stocks will continue to fall. What you have to realize is that, this
isn't just hurting Rockwell Mining, it's also hurting Kent's company, Blackmore
Ltd."
"I don't want to ruin Kent's company. And despite what
you may think, I don't want to ruin Rockwell Mining either."
"Then
you'll sign these papers," Mac announces as he sets an envelope down on the
table and pulls a pen out of his pocket.
"What are these?"
she asks him as they lock eyes with one another.
"They are declarations
giving me back control of Rockwell Mining effective immediately and Kent control
over Blackmore Ltd."
"Absolutely
not," she protests to Mac. "I will be a free woman very soon. This has
all been a huge misunderstanding!"
"Really?"
Mac asks her. "Lucinda told me the entire truth, Lydia. About how you looked
at the file at Rockwell Mining and provided my bid information to Kent Blackmore
to outbid me for Kelsey Lake and how you used your pregnancy with Lexington to
cover it all up. I will testify to that in court. You won't get away that easy."
"You
wouldn't do that," Lydia gasps. "I'm the mother of your children."
"I
won't, if you sign these papers! After everything you've done tome, I'll gladly
send you away for years, Lydia."
"But what if I get out of
here?"
"Do you really want to take that risk?" Mac asks
her. "Sign the papers, Lydia. You know that it's best for everyone involved."
Lydia gulps and looks up at him. She finally grabs the pen and pulls the
papers out of the envelope, and signs them quickly. "I'm not doing this for
you," she spits back to him.
She looks back at up at him and wipes
a tear away from him. "There, now get out of here before I change my mind
and rip those papers up!"
"With pleasure," Mac smiles
as he grabs all the documents from the table, and moves over to the door. He looks
back at her quickly. "Oh Lydia," he says as she looks up him. "Rot
in hell."
