The
words hit MacKenzie Rockwell like a ton of bricks. He immediately feels like the
wind has been knocked out of him, so he puts his hands on the table in front of
him to prevent himself from passing out. "Don't you dare question me about how upset I am or am not," Lucinda quickly tells him before she takes a bit of the tuna. "I am beside myself with worry." "Then what are you, what are we, going to do about this?" Dane asks her quickly. "Can we dig up some dirt on Cartwright and it against him?" "I'm not sure we have time for that," she replies to him before she takes a sip of her wine. "The sentencing could come in any time. Looking into Cartwright might take longer." Dane sighs heavily. "I don't want to lose Mac." "We won't," Lucinda says to him confidently. "I believe that Cartwright had to appease Ming Choi with a guilty verdict but to show her that he's in control, Mac will be given a light, if any, sentence." "I wish I could believe that." "Trust me," Lucinda removes her sunglasses and winks at Dane. "This will all work out, I'll see to it." *** "I can't imagine what your mother is going through right now," Deacon Cooper tells Quinn Cunningham as they stand in her large bedroom that is within the Rockwell mansion. Once Deacon heard about the outcome of Mac's trial, he raced to the mansion to see how everyone was doing, especially Quinn, the mother of his child. "She's putting on a brave face but this is all catching up to her," Quinn replies to him. "If I tell you something, you will keep it between us?" "Of course." "My mother was pregnant," Quinn reveals to him. "She was going to have Nathan's baby." "What do you mean, she was pregnant?" Deacon asks her quickly. "She fell down the stairs," Quinn explains to Deacon. "Well, she was pushed but that's another story. Anyways, the baby didn't make it. So, on top of losing her fiancé, she lost her unborn child." "My goodness, no wonder she has been so emotional," Deacon says back to her. "My heart goes out to Sabine right now." "Mine does too," Quinn nods back to him. "And part of me can't help but have guilt pains. I mean, here I am, ready to give birth anytime now and my mother loses her child." "Don't do that to yourself," Deacon tells her. "You're allowed to be happy and excited for this journey, regardless of what Sabine is going through." "It's just hard, you know?" Deacon moves up to her and pulls her into a hug. "We are in this together, Quinn. We are about to be a family together. You, me and this baby." "You mean that, don't you?" "Of course, I do." "Then you have to promise me something Deacon," Quinn looks back at him with intent. "You have to make sure your parents stop interfering with our relationship. I can't handle their meddling. It has to be all of us in this together or we have to cut them out." Deacon gulps heavily. He knows that his parents can be a handful but the thought of cutting them out does seem extreme. "I told my mother she has to stop this vendetta against you or she won't be in her grandchild's life," he reveals to her. "I have to believe that will be enough for her to change her ways." "It better be," Quinn slyly grins back to him. "Because I'm done taking her attacks." *** "Tell
me what you're thinking Chase?" Dyhannah Cooper asks her former husband as
they sit across from one another at the country club. She knows that he must be
upset, on some level, that Mac was found guilty. "I feel like I've barely
seen you since the trial began." "I know these last few weeks haven't been easy on you, Marat," Quinn replies to him as she pours herself a glass of water. "I'm sure on some level you are happy you're not the father of my baby, but it also must sting." "Yes to both of those," he chuckles back to her. "I really just wanted to make sure that you and I were cool? I never meant for our affair to cause you any problems." "It wasn't your fault," Quinn purses her lips together. "Dyhannah has been determined to get me out of Deacon's life; she won't succeed in that. Oh!" "Are you okay?" He asks her as he moves up to her, surprised by her reaction. "The baby, it is kicking," Quinn reveals to him as she grabs his hand and places it on her belly. "Do you feel that?" Marat's eyes twinkle in amazement. "Wow," he smiles as he looks into her eyes. "That is incredible. Thanks for sharing with me." Quinn blushes back to him. "Of course, these moments, they won't last forever. We have to experience them while we can." *** Stacey Rockwell quickly moves towards the front door of the guesthouse that resides on the Rockwell estate as she heard the doorbell ring. She opens the door and is stunned to see her mother, Lydia Rockwell, standing on the other side. "What the hell are you doing here?" Stacey asks as she puts her hand on her hip. "We had agreed that I could see Drake and Poppy today, did that slip your mind?" Lydia asks her quickly, hoping to move into the living room but Stacey prevents her. "That was before you attacked me at the courtroom, Lydia. If you think I'm going to let you anywhere near me or my children, you've lost your mind!" "Darling, please, we both got carried away, our tussle was nothing." Stacey chuckles back to her as she is stunned at her mothers full. "You need to get something through your head, Lydia. You and I, we are over. I never, ever, want to see you or your dyed blonde hair again." "You don't mean that! We can get past this, Stacey! I'm your mother!" "You're a pathetic old hag who throws tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants and I want no part of that in my life," Stacey hisses. "Now, get out of here or I'll have security throw you out!" Lydia gulps heavily as Stacey slams the door in her face. She tries not to let herself get emotional but she is realizing that she and Stacey may never have the same relationship again. *** "Hang on, I'm coming," Kent Blackmore says as he rushes to his front door of the penthouse as he hears someone pounding on the door. He has no idea who would want to see him so urgently, but he will give them a piece of his mind for the nonstop knocking on his door. "Houston, what has gotten into you? I said I was coming." Houston Blackmore storms past his father and urgently walks to the living room. "You better start explaining yourself." "You're going to have to tell me what this is all about, I'm not a mind reader." Houston grits his teeth back to his father. "You're still sleeping with Stacey! You're sleeping with the mother of your grandson!" Kent sighs back to him. "Lydia told you? Why doesn't that surprise me." "It doesn't matter how I found out! How could you do this to me, Dad? You know how much Stacey means to me!" "I know that son," Kent calmly tells him. "Stacey and I, we never planned on this happening, but it did happen and here we are. We never meant to hurt anyone, you of all people should know that considering your history with Lydia and Sabine." "Don't do that! Don't bring up my mistake! This is about you and Stacey!" "I don't know what else to tell you other then that Stacey and I are close and I know that will take some time getting used too." "Never," Houston glares back at him. "I will never get over this because it's wrong, Dad. This entire situation is wrong!" *** A short time later, Stacey opens the door to her guesthouse and sees Houston standing on the other side. "Houston, did I forget that you were going to see Drake today?" she asks him as he storms into the living room. "No, this is about you, me, us," he turns and looks back at his former fiancé. "How could you, Stace? How could you continue to have an affair with my father?" Stacey gulps heavily back to him. "I, uh, I don't know. It just happened. I'm sorry Houston, I really am." "Do you have feelings for my father?" He asks her quickly. "What?" "Answer me!" He yells back at her. "Are you in love with my father?" Stacey feels her eyes swell with water. "I don't know what to say." "This is so fucked up! It's bad enough that Drake and Poppy are half siblings while Poppy's dad is Drake's grandfather but now, you're in love with Kent? This has to stop Stacey!" "Kent and I, we never meant to hurt anyone, you have to believe me." "All I believe is that you and Kent are creating a fire storm and you're doing nothing to put it out." *** "I had to come see you," an emotional Stacey says as she moves into the living room of the penthouse where Kent lives. "Houston knows all about our affair; Lydia must have told him." "I know," Kent nods back to her. "He was here earlier; I don't think I've ever seen him so upset before." "Me either," Stacey replies to him. "What have we done, Kent?" "Nothing that we should be ashamed of," he replies to her. "You and I, we have a chemistry that we can't deny, Stacey. My son should know that considered he has slept with women that I've been involved with multiple times." "I
just hate that we've created this drama," "You know what I say?" he asks her with a sly grin. "Fuck all of them! When I look at you, I see a woman that I want to be with. Do you feel that way about me?" Stacey gulps as she looks back at him. "God help me but yes. I have fallen for you, Kent." Kent moves up to her and caresses her face with his hand. "I want you, Stacey," he whispers to her. "And, I don't care who knows about it." He leans in and kisses her passionately. When their lips part, they gaze into each other's eyes before they kiss again, this time her hands move to his pants and she starts to unzip them. *** Dyhannah Cooper eases into the country club looking for a spot to have a cocktail. She spent the majority of her day at Blackmore Ltd. and now she needs a release, especially because she finally believes she has come up with a way to get Quinn out of Deacon's life, once and for all. She moves up to the bar after she spies Marat sitting alone with a Manhattan in front of him. "Is this seat taken?" She asks her former lover as she sits next to him. "How are you doing, or do I even have to ask?" "If you are asking me about not being the father of Quinn's child, I am okay. She and I were only together once, so I can't say that I'm surprised by the outcome." "What if I told you that I still think that woman is lying about the paternity?" Dyhannah asks him as she takes a sip of her champagne cocktail. Marat chuckles back to her. "You're not giving up on this, are you? We have the paternity tests results." "If you help me with this idea I have," she purses her lips together. "And it doesn't work, I will accept that my son fathered that slut's child. But until then, I still she's lying because she wants her claws in Deacon's back. What do you say, Marat? Help me out, for old times sake?" *** "I am sorry that I missed feeling the baby kick earlier," Deacon tells Quinn as he pours two glasses of iced tea and passes her one. "I'd love to experience that with you one day." Quinn chuckles back to him as she accepts the drink. "Don't worry, you will. They kick a lot." "Hopefully it's not causing you pain," he says before he takes a sip of his drink. "Not at all," she purses her lips together. "I really like how invested you are in me and the baby, Deacon." "Of course I am," he smiles back to her. "You're carrying my child. For so long, I've been focused on my career and now I'm going to have a family!" "About that, I've been thinking " He chuckles back to her. "Should I be worried?" She playfully swats his arm as she giggles back to him. "We were about to be married when your parents interrupted us. Now that we know the truth about the paternity, maybe we should get married, for real this time?" Deacon licks his lips and leans forward to kiss Quinn on the lips. "I'd love nothing more than to marry you, Quinn." Quinn's smile beams back to him. "Really, you mean that?" She asks as he nods to her. She starts to laugh before she kisses him again. "Oh Deacon! You've made me the happiest woman in the world!" *** A loud buzzer goes off while Lucinda sits patiently while she waits for Mac to arrive for their visit. She still hates that her son must spend more time in jail for a crime that she knows he didn't commit. She just hopes and prays that the Judge gives him a lighter sentence. The buzzer goes off again and the side door opens where Mac appears with a police guard behind him. "Mother, what are you doing here?" He asks her as he sits across from her. "You shouldn't be here, I don't want you to see me like this." "Nonsense MacKenzie," she grabs his hand and squeezes it. "I am your mother, this is the only place I would be." "How are the children? I keep thinking that this must be difficult on them." "They are all resilient, they are concerned but they are coping," Lucinda tells him. "More importantly, how are you?" Mac shrugs his shoulders back to her. "I'm as well as to be expected. I thought Chase would get me off on these charges, but he seems to think the sentence will be lighter. I honestly don't know what to believe anymore." "I trusted Chase," Lucinda nods back to him. "I have no idea how he has screwed this up so royally." "It's not his fault," Mac replies to her. "The evidence does suggest I did this to Nathan. Ming Choi is a brutal attorney. We just have to pray that the sentence is fair and easy." "I won't be here for the sentencing," she reveals to him as his eyes open wider in surprise. "What? Where are you going?" Lucinda looks back at him with intent. "It is just a minor business trip, nothing to worry about. I will be back the day after, you won't even know I'm gone." "Can no one else handle this for you?" Mac questions her. "I'd really like you there, Mom, when the verdict comes in." "I'm afraid I have to handle this," she tells him. "But don't worry, Mac, I am always with you, no matter what." *** A few moments later, Dane Ashby is sitting across from Mac as he is only allowed one visitor at a time. The last person Mac expected to have visit him was his biological father since they haven't been that close. "I must admit, I am surprised to see you here," Mac tells his father. "Lucinda and I travelled here together, it seemed fitting that I would come in and also see you. You're are, after all, my son," Dane uneasily smiles back to him. "I suppose I haven't made that transition very easy on anyone, have I?" Dane chuckles back to him. "You're entire world got turned upside down by that revelation; I am not surprised that you hard a difficult time adjusting, hell you are still adjusting!" "Well, I appreciate that Dane because I do still consider myself a Rockwell. My entire life I have believed that Lucinda and Mortimer were my parents. I can't just shut that thinking off. But I am grateful for your support during this time," Mac tells him. "Of course, I wouldn't be anywhere else." "Speaking of my mother," Mac looks back at Dane. "She told me she had to go away on business. Do you know where she is going? It seems very odd that she would miss the sentencing of the trial." Dane shrugs his shoulders back to him. "It appears she told you as much as she told me, which is next to nothing. If I find out, I'll let you know." "Do that because I can't place it, but I suspect she's up to something," Mac says. "I just don't know what it is." *** The following morning, Lydia waits for Mac to arrive for their visit. Before his sentencing, which is in a few hours, she wanted to see her ex-husband to see how he is coping. "Lydia, you shouldn't have come," Mac announces as he moves up to her table. "You didn't expect me to stay away, did you?" She asks him. "You don't look like you got much sleep." Mac chuckles back to her. "I didn't," he reveals to her. "I couldn't stop thinking about what kind of sentence Cartwright is going to lay on me." "I am sure he will be lenient," Lydia says with hope in her voice. "I just wish there was a way to prove that Nathan set this all up." "Even if there was, it will be too late before the sentence comes in. Anyways, how are the children? I hope they are adjusting " Lydia sighs back to him as she thinks about her physical attack with Stacey. She has no idea if she and her daughter will ever have the same relationship again. "For the most part, they are okay," she nods back to him. "They are worried, like all of us." "I wish I could take this all away," he sighs back to her. "But honestly, what is going on with the kids? I want to know." "Well, Cole and Celeste are seeming on the skids, again. He needs to realize that viper is bad news," Lydia quickly informs him. "And Lex, he's been working on a mystery, but he hasn't said much else." "And Stacey? How is our daughter?" "Oh Mac," Lydia sighs back to him. "I'm afraid my relationship with her has forever been ruined. And I'm not sure if anything can repair us." *** "I wasn't sure I was going to come today," Cole admits to Celeste as they sit across from one another in the country club with some breakfast in front of them. "I'm not sure what we have to say to each other." Celeste looks back at him and hopes that he will hear her out; the last thing she ever wanted was to cause Sabine to lose her child. "I know that the sentencing is today," she finally replies to him. "I wanted you to know that you have my support, Cole." "Thanks," he nods back to her. "We are all just hoping that Mac gets a light sentence. I have to confess though, this reaching out seems very hollow right now." "Why? Because of what happened with Sabine? It was an accident, Cole. I never meant for anything to happen to her or her baby, you have to believe me." "I don't know what to believe," he admits to her. "All I know, Celeste, is that I saw you push Sabine down the stairs and as a result, she lost her baby. You did that, you killed her baby." "It was an accident!" "I don't care what it was!" He tells her. "You know what? I can't do this! I can't be with someone who pushes a pregnant woman down the stairs!" "Cole! What are you saying? Where are you going?" Celeste protests to him. "I'm going to get ready for court," he tells her as he throws his napkin on the table. "But you and I, we are over Celeste. For good this time." *** "Is there any particular information you are looking for?" Josie Quade asks Sabine as they stand at the reception desk at Rockwell Mining. Sabine looks back at the new receptionist that Nathan hired shortly before he was gunned down and smiles at her. "Not really," she admits to her. "I am just trying to get all of Nathan's affairs in order; I'm was hoping you'd tell me if anyone called for him or if any thing has been delivered for him?" "I'm afraid not," Josie tells her. "And since Mrs. Lockhart has taken over as CEO, all the calls that used to be for Nathan are now directed to her." "Right, of course." "Although, that is only when she's in the office." Sabine arches her eyebrow back to her. "Isn't Carmen in the office every day?" "Usually yes, but yesterday she was away most of the afternoon," Josie tells her. "I don't know why I told you that, I'm sure Mrs. Lockhart was busy." Sabine
arches her eyebrow wondering why Carmen was out of the office yesterday when Mac's
trial was taking place; it's not like "Do me a favour Josie and tell me about anything else that seems odd about Mrs. Lockhart, okay? It will be our secret." *** Meanwhile, in the main office at Rockwell Mining, Carmen stands at the bar and pours herself a glass of champagne. She takes a long sip of the beverage while a grin creeps across her face. "Slate, my love, is dead," she whispers to herself. "I wish he hadn't died but it certainly worked in my favour. Because now, Nathan is dead and yesterday, Mac was found guilty of killing him. In a few hours, he will be sentenced and I know that the Judge will send him away for years." "Then, next week, the merger will Rockwell Mining and Blackmore Ltd. will be complete and I will be the CEO of the largest diamond company in the world," she chuckles to herself. "Everything is finally going my way and I intend on enjoying every single minute of this!" *** The Rockwell family slowly moves into the courtroom and see Mac standing next to Chase as the Judge has made his decision on the Mac's sentencing. "No matter what, I love you guys," Mac tells his children as they move behind him. "We love you too Dad, always," Lex replies to him. "We are here for you, no matter what Daddy," Stacey chimes in next. Before anyone can say anything, the bailiff steps forward. "All rise, the honourable Judge Sebastian Cartwright resides." The Judge makes his way to the bench, where he slowly sits down. "You may be seated, with the exception of Mr. Cooper and the defendant," he says, as the room sits while Chase and Mac remain standing up. "I've taken this case into great consideration as it is complicated. At the end of the day, I agree with Ms. Choi, that the Rockwell family, and in particular, MacKenzie, seem to think they can do whatever they want, however they want, speak however they want, including in my court room, without cause," he continues to explain. "And as such, since the defendant has been found guilty, I'm going to honour Ms. Choi's recommendation. Mr. MacKenzie Rockwell, I hereby sentence you, for the first-degree murder of Nathan Lockhart, to a penalty of death!" He announces as the crowd starts to whisper in horror and shock! |
